由于 71% 的罕见疾病在 18 岁之前影响人们,罕见疾病对儿科社区的影响尤为严重。出生时患有罕见疾病的儿童预计寿命会缩短,并且在医疗保健方面存在重大的(通常是危及生命的)缺口。

尽管只有 10% 的罕见病有 FDA 批准的药物治疗,但美国 90% 的罕见病儿科患者能活到成年。这在很大程度上要归功于医学的进步和 1983 年的孤儿药法案,该法案鼓励研究和开发治疗罕见疾病的方法。随着在延长受罕见疾病影响的儿童的预期寿命方面不断取得进展,解决从儿科到成人护理的医疗保健过渡中的现有差距对于老龄化罕见病社区的整体福祉和生存能力至关重要。

  • Launching mutually beneficial collaborations that improve access to Mental Health services for rare disease patients, caregivers, care partners and siblings.

  • Promoting the use of Mental Health Therapy across the rare disease ecosystem.

  • Supporting and executing research & publications that analyze the impact of rare diseases on the mental health of patients, caregivers, care partners and their families.
